After months of learning VR development alone in my bedroom, I became frustrated with the lack of a VR community in the east bay area of California. I knew I couldn’t be alone, so I reached out to a few of my peers about organizing a regular hangout for VR artists and developers nearby. This quickly blossomed into a Meetup group with our own residency at an amazing maker space called Circuit Launch in Oakland. It was an incredible opportunity to not only provide for others, but to escape my comfort zones, and to surround myself with new mentors.
Along with weekly all-day coworking sessions open to the public, we’ve provided our local community with valuable resources including access to a variety of hardware, free consulting, special demos, networking opportunities, workshops, and delicious Brazilian BBQ.
